Painful Heritage symposium, November 2011:11th and 12th November 2010, the Painful Heritage project group invited the international community of scholars and cultural heritage management and educational institutions to a symposium called “Cultural landscapes on the Second World War”. The symposium was arranged and hosted by the Falstad Centre.The symposium was attended by ca. 30 representatives from many European nations, and served as a meeting ground for Western, Eastern and Central European perspectives and experiences. The programme consisted of four sessions: General perspectives on the cultural heritage of the war as a research object; landscapes of memory; the POW as a field of research; and the archaeology of Nazi camps and infrastructure.
